Position Summary

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Project Manager to lead and develop key initiatives that align with the Institute’s mission. This role will oversee the launch and management of the (un)Debating competition, manage the Institute’s Locke Magazine, and explore new project opportunities, including a potential International Economic Olympiad. The ideal candidate is an innovative problem solver with strong project management skills, capable of taking ideas from concept to execution.

This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, hands-on execution, and stakeholder collaboration to ensure successful project development, rollout, and optimization based on student, user, and customer feedback.

This role will oversee the launch and management of Locke Magazine and the Undebating Competition, and other initiatives in varying stages of progress. The ideal candidate is an innovative problem solver with strong project management skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Debating Competition

Lead the design, development, and execution of this new venture, ensuring collaboration across departments for a successful launch, sustained growth, and iterative improvements.

  • Locke Magazine

Oversee content, editorial strategy, partnerships, ad sales, and publication for both physical and digital formats, ensuring seamless production and distribution.

  • Team Management

Supervise and coordinate part-time team members assisting with Debating and Locke Magazine.

  • New Project Development

Research and assess the feasibility of new programme offerings, exploring unique features, user experience, and financial viability. If viable, design the product, roadmap, and drive development and delivery through hands-on execution.

  • User-Centric Approach

prioritise the student/user/customer experience in the ideation, development, and delivery of new Institute initiatives and programmes, ensuring practical implementation at every stage.

  • Technology Collaboration

Work closely with JLI’s technology manager to develop platform solutions that support new product rollouts.

Other Responsibilities

  • Partnership & Outreach

Engage with potential partners, organize meetings, and report key findings to leadership.

  • Legal Insight

Provide strategic input on legal matters as appropriate.

  • Media & Public Engagement

Assist in placing op-eds written by Director General, Martin Cox, and track industry-related media stories for potential public commentary.

  • Summer School Involvement

Act as a preceptor at JLI summer schools as requested.

  • Editorial Contributions

Author content for Locke Magazine as needed.

Skills & Attributes for Success

  • Strong strategic thinking and project/programme management abilities.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience with content creation, editorial management, or media relations is a plus.

  • Ability to work independently and drive projects with minimal supervision.

  • Adaptability and problem-solving mindset with a keen eye for innovation.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
